ABOUT US

Duke Town Presbyterian Church is one of the oldest and most historic churches in Nigeria.

It was founded by Scottish Presbyterian missionaries in 1846.
The missionaries were led by Hope Masterton Waddell, who arrived in Calabar to spread Christianity and promote education.
The church was established following an invitation from the Efik rulers, King Eyamba V and King Eyo Honesty II.
The present Duke Town church building was officially opened in 1855.
It played a major role in ending harmful traditional practices and encouraging formal education.
Many of the first schools and missionary activities in Calabar were connected to the church.
The church became a strong foundation for the growth of Presbyterianism across Nigeria.
Today, it remains an important religious, historical, and cultural landmark in Calabar.
Duke Town Presbyterian Church continues to preserve the legacy of Christian faith and missionary work in Nigeria.
